Have You Had Your Car Stolen?

    Last updated 6 days ago

The article is originally from ClassicCars.com

Have you ever wondered how thieves steal classic cars? Here's how! The stealing of classic cars is most often a very targeted form of theft. Cars are often “stolen to order,” in which case a buyer has specified a make/model and the thief targets and steals that particular vehicle. Since these thieves are professionals, they can typically disengage anti-theft devices such as alarms and kill-switches, rendering them ineffective in protecting the vehicle. Once the vehicle is stolen, thieves often change the Vehicle Identification Number and re-sell the vehicle in the U.S.

In other cases, cars are stripped down and shipped overseas, where they are reassembled and re-sold.

This form of theft can also be quite dangerous, with thieves actually entering a car owner’s home. In many cases, professional thieves identify a specific car to steal, follow the car owner home and steal the car directly from the owner’s garage. Thieves often roll the car out of the garage, place it on a trailer and haul the car away. The very nature of this form of theft makes a strong case for protecting these cars with a proven stolen vehicle recovery system.
