Exploring the F.A.S.T. Phenomenon

Last updated 11 months ago

Many classic car collectors miss the look and feel of yesteryear’s automobiles—that’s why the Factory Appearing Stock Tire (F.A.S.T) Racing Series is designed to satisfy the need for vintage speed. Take a look at these F.A.S.T. Racing Series basics to learn if your favorite classic muscle car can compete with the best.

  • F.A.S.T. Goals: The F.A.S.T Racing Series focuses on competitive muscle cars that are restored to their original factory specifications. Any muscle car assembled in United States or Canada between 1955 and 1974 is eligible for competition. F.A.S.T. style vehicles are built to emulate more than the mechanics of classic muscle cars. Competitors also endeavor to keep visuals as close to the original style as possible. In addition, the F.A.S.T. Racing Series acts as a venue for classic car lovers to meet, network, and share their love of old-school vehicles.

  • F.A.S.T. Rules: F.A.S.T style vehicles are held up to strict scrutiny before being certified for competition. If possible, all parts should be from the original equipment manufacturer. If OEM parts are unavailable, then appropriate restoration duplicates must be used. Some non-stock items, such as tires and exhaust systems, are allowed in competition. Lastly, F.A.S.T. vehicles should resemble the style or finish of the original vehicle wherever possible.  These rules ensure every vehicle in the F.A.S.T. Racing Series fits the classic styles that muscle car enthusiasts adore.

  • F.A.S.T. Parts: Finding the right parts store is an essential part of F.A.S.T. style restoration—you’ll need to locate a parts resource that specializes in classic and OEM parts. Online sources may be your best bet for tracking down hard-to-find parts. Sites like Performance Online specialize in classic model Mercury, Ford, and Chevy parts.
