High-performance engine upgrades allow your vehicle to exceed its factory-standard capabilities. However, this speed boost also exceeds the limits of factory brakes. This can lead to serious safety issues. Those with a need for speed should always consider upgrading their brakes to match a high-performance vintage car. Here are some of the reasons why upgraded brakes are essential when you upgrade your engine:
- Increased Performance: After-market brake products offer numerous advantages over original manufacturer equipment. These upgrades are designed to increase long-term durability and control. Improved heat dissipation is the key to many of these improvements. Larger after-market rotors are better able to dissipate braking energy thanks to their size. Likewise, rotors with directional vanes provide increased air flow. After-market brake parts also increase the pure stopping power of your vehicle. Multi- piston calipers and rotor slots, for instance, reduce stop distance by increasing friction. Drivers can combine these various upgrades for maximized brake performance.
- Improved Durability: Stopping power isn’t the only advantage offered by upgraded brake systems. For instance, custom brake pads made from ceramic compounds are highly resistant against wear. Drivers are required to exchange pads less often when using these high-quality components. Similarly, upgraded brake lines provide unique advantages for the custom vintage vehicle enthusiast. Rubber lines soften with repeated and high-performance use. Conversely, braided steel lines resist wear and improve pedal response.
Neglecting these important upgrades spells danger for drivers. Thankfully, PerformanceOnline.com makes it easy to match brakes to high-speed custom cars. Our selection of high-performance Wilwood Disc Brake products includes slotted rotors and multi-piston calipers for classic vehicle builds.
